Rooted Reflections

About This Show
Artist statement
I paint nature to make sense of its power for our souls.
Whether it’s the blaze of a sunset, the roar of waves or the stillness of the forest, the natural world (when we pause to notice) regularly evokes awe and wonder. By capturing a bit of creation’s beauty, this work brings the solace of the creator into our everyday lives. And it reminds us to savor the glorious moments when the outside world actually can feed us deeply within.
Acrylics give me the versatility to play with light and color, and, as I work to bring out the heart of a piece, sometimes I add a bit of ink or paper. I’ve always loved painting but left it behind when, in college, I fell in love with metalworking and became a silversmith. When I broke my wrist in 2020, I returned to it as a form of hand therapy -- and have been painting ever since.
